I’m flying back to Toronto for my dad’s birthday. It’s a big one, but for the sake of his dignity I wont’t say how big.
I should rewind. I found a great price from Vancouver - $450 return. This week, I saw that the airline - let’s call them Sunwing - sent me an email saying that my return flight had been cancelled. This was sent a week before my flight, and due to the fact that all airlines are fucking monsters, my new flight was a) $300 more, b)my return flight has 2 stopovers, and c) it lands back in Abbotsford.
Now, to the uninitiated, Abbotsford is about 45 minutes to an hour on top of a usual 2.5 hr trip to Whistler. It’s a big ask to get someone to pick me up, is what I’m saying. So I have that to deal with that when I get “home”.
So I get to Vancouver Airport just after 8pm, for my 11.15 flight.
My flight has been delayed.
Until 5.45am.
Everyone I want to talk to is either drunk, working, or already asleep back East. All I want to do is kill time in this godforsaken airport and I’ve got no one to talk to.
I’m just lonely tonight, I guess.
